About the Book

In order to research native folklore on the supernatural world, anthropologist Edgar Martin del Campo lived for eight months among Aztec and Otomí villages in Veracruz, Mexico.

The Shaman's Cross is a memoir of the spiritual experiences and insights Edgar received during his visit. It vividly describes the people, places, and rituals that are keeping the ancient religions of the Aztecs and Maya alive.

The Shaman's Cross is the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to bringing the relevance of native spirituality to public attention. It merges years of personal experience with academic research, with connections across Mexico's vast history and area.

Edgar received a Master's in religion from Claremont School of Theology in 2000 and a doctorate in anthropology from the University at Albany in 2006, which he completed with a Fulbright grant.

Edgar speaks English, Spanish, and Nahuatl. He also reads French and German.
